Each year, Americans observe and celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month from Sept. 15 – Oct. 15, by recognizing the histories, cultures and contributions of the Hispanic communities.
In honor of Hispanic Heritage Month, we’d like to proudly highlight one of our own, Chantal Rodriguez, Multifamily Asset Manager, Downtown Summerlin.
Tell us about the importance of Hispanic Heritage Month to you?
Chantal: My grandfather immigrated to the United States in 1958. He was one of the most influential people in my life. He had a great work ethic, taught me the importance of traditional family values, and pursued the American Dream. He always encouraged me to pursue my dreams. I love that Hispanic Heritage Month celebrates those who have shaped our lives and the cultural contributions to our heritage and history.
Best part of working and living at Downtown Summerlin?
Chantal: I’ve worked at Downtown Summerlin since it began its development in 2014, so it is incredibly rewarding to see the growth from day one. As a resident within Downtown Summerlin, I can enjoy all the property has to offer from the Summerlin Sounds Summer Concert Series, Las Vegas Aviator games at Las Vegas Ballpark, and weekends at the Farmers Market.
What are some ways you celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month?
Chantal: My family celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month year-round. When we gather for birthdays, holidays or even a monthly breakfast, it always includes a large family gathering. We gather to enjoy one of my grandmothers’ traditional recipes, indulge in a symbolic tequila toast and sing and dance in my grandmother’s kitchen to her favorite Latin playlist.
Favorite place for after work happy hour?
Chantal: Public School 702. They have an amazing happy hour and I love the patio.
Best kept secret about living so close to work?
Chantal: Watching the fireworks after a Las Vegas Aviators game at Las Vegas Ballpark! If I’m not able to catch the game, I can sit on my balcony and watch the festivities.
Proudest moment being a Hispanic American?
Chantal: One of my proudest moments as a Hispanic American was fulfilling my grandfather’s dream of watching me become a first-generation college graduate.
