Describe your role and how it pertains to the community of Summerlin:
Betty and Vincent: Together, this dynamic duo co-chairs the community’s Design Review committee, overseeing the architectural design of all Summerlin residential components. This involves oversight of scores of neighborhoods and hundreds of model homes that each require the team’s stamp of design approval to ensure they meet Summerlin’s high standards.
As licensed architects, Betty and Vincent have the ability to codify style to set a standard for Summerlin homebuilders. After reviewing site plans, grading, drainage, landscape, architecture, colors and cutsheets, Betty and Vincent are onsite to ensure each neighborhood and non-residential project is built to approved plans, protecting Summerlin’s overall design aesthetic.
Accomplishments/Statistics during current role:
Betty: Years ago I was the youngest woman in Nevada to receive licensure to practice architecture. That is something I am especially proud of. My tenure at HHC has given me time to look back and appreciate how the architecture in Summerlin has evolved and become a living neighborhood. When I drive around the community, I feel a great sense of pride and satisfaction in my work that helps keep Summerlin looking beautiful!
Vincent: I am especially proud of the work I do to develop and deliver great projects to our construction team. This includes all parks, paseos, open spaces, streetscapes and monumentation for the master plan. I work with Julie Cleaver, SVP, Commercial and Residential Planning, to create the initial concept for Summerlin amenities, then get them designed, approved and ready to build. I love being able to do work that forms and impacts my community.
Any fun facts about Summerlin you would like to share?
Betty: Boca Park is not in Summerlin!!!
Vincent: You can always tell if you’re in Summerlin by looking at the streetlights. The design has been consistent from the beginning and is noticeably different from what is used elsewhere in the City and County.
What is your favorite part of Summerlin?
Betty: The first village is still my favorite. I really enjoy walking to Village Center Circle for a coffee and to enjoy the atmosphere.
Vincent: My favorite part of Summerlin is The Gardens Park. It’s the heart of my village and offers something for everyone.
